The empire was established by an Ismaili military general from Badakhshan, Ala-ud-Din Bahman Shah, after revolting against the Turkic Delhi Sultanate of Muhammad bin Tughlaq. It was located in Deccan.

January 1351: The Hindu ruling family was descended from Naik Nimbaji Nimbalkar (1284-1291), a Maratha who received a grant from a Mughal emperor in the 14th century.
January 1369: Kapaya Nayaka was a powerful military leader in the region of Golconda. Bahaman Shah was the ruler of the Bahmani Sultanate. The military engagements between them resulted in Kapaya Nayaka losing control of Golconda to the Bahmani Sultanate in 1368.
January 1375: Tungabhadra-Krishna River doab conquered by Vijayanagara Empire.
January 1379: In 1378, Harihara I of the Vijayanagara Empire extended his control into the northwest, gaining authority over important ports like Goa, Chaul, and Dabhol. This expansion helped solidify the empire's influence in the region.
January 1401: It was the ruling kingdom in Gondwana region of India. From the 14th to the 18th century the area was held by powerful Gond dynasties, which during Mughal times remained independent or served as tributary chiefs.
January 1423: By c.1422, Deva Raya I came to control territory up to the Krishna river - Tungabhadra river doab including Pangal.
January 1444: Vinayak Dev, a prince from Kashmir whose family claimed descent from the mythical Suryavanshis, established the little kingdom of Nandapur located in the Eastern Ghats in 1443.
January 1447: Expansion of the Vijayanagara Empire under Deva Raya II, the greatest of the Sangama dynasty rulers.
January 1459: In 1458 A.D. a battle ensued at Devara Konda between Odia forces led by Hamvira Deva and Bahmani forces. As a result of this battle Odia forces came out as victorious and Telegana region became a feudal state of the Gajapati empire with the Velama chiefs as the vassal rulers.
January 1470: The Vijayanagara monarchs, led by King Virupaksha Raya II, ruled over the territory of Goa until 1469. In that year, the Bahmani sultans of Gulbarga, under the leadership of Mahmud Gawan, successfully appropriated the territory from Vijayanagara control.
January 1471: Virupaksha Raya II lost the Konkan coast (including Goa, Chaul, and Dabul) by 1470 to Prime Minister Mahamud Gawan from the Bahamani kingdom.
January 1471: Cession of Rajamundry and Kondapalii to the Bahamani sultanate.
January 1477: In the year 1476 the Bahmani Sultanate became weak due to internal conflicts and a severe famine. Using this situation as a perfect opportunity, Purrushotama Deva launched an offensive from the north and defeated his elder brother Hamvira, expelled the Bahamani garrisons and recaptured Rajamundry and Kondapalli to his empire.
January 1486: The Bahmani Sultan would also invade Doab of Krishna and Tungabhadra.
January 1490: According to one legend, in the year 1489 the Ahmadnagar Sultanate sent its Admiral Piram Khan (of Ethiopian descent) with orders to capture the Murud-Janjira castle from Ram Patil. Owing to the castle's fortifications, the Admiral could not attack conventionally. He and his team disguised themselves as merchants and asked Ram Patil to safeguard their three hundred large boxes containing silks and wines from Surat. As thanks, Piram Khan threw a party with wine. Once Ram Patil and his soldiers were intoxicated, Piram Khan opened the boxes, which contained his soldiers, and used the opportunity to capture the castle and the island on which it stand.
May 1490: The Ahmadnagar Sultanate was founded by Malik Ahmad Nizam Shah I, who was the son of Nizam-ul-Mulk Malik Hasan Bahri. Malik Ahmad Nizam Shah I was the governor of Junnar. After defeating the Bahmani army led by general Jahangir Khan on May 28, 1490, he declared independence and established dynastic rule over Ahmadnagar.
January 1491: In 1490, during the disintegration of the Bahmani Sultanate, Imad-ul-Mulk, then governor of Berar, declared independence and founded the Imad Shahi dynasty of the Berar Sultanate.
January 1493: The Bidar Sultanate was founded in 1492 by Qasim Barid, who was Georgian enslaved by Turks.
January 1501: Actual Goa State fell into the hands of the Adil Shahis of Bijapur, who established as their auxiliary capital the city known under the Portuguese as Velha Goa.
January 1510: In 1509, Krishnadevaraya's armies clashed with Sultan Mahmud who was severely injured and defeated. Yusuf Adil Shah was killed and the Raichur Doab was annexed. Taking advantage of the victory, the Raya reunited Bidar, Gulbarga, and Bijapur into Vijayanagar.
January 1519: By 1518 the Bijapur Sultanate controlled the western area of the Deccan region of Southern India.

Disestablishment
January 1528: The south Indian Emperor Krishnadevaraya of the Vijayanagara Empire defeated the last remnant of Bahmani Sultanate power after which the Bahmani Sultanate collapsed.
