Establishment
January 1713: The Bamana Empire, also known as the Bambara Empire, was a centralized state in West Africa that existed from 1712. It was founded by Bitòn Coulibaly, a military leader and ruler, who expanded the empire's territory by conquering neighboring cities.

1. Events
January 1715: Gwiriko state founded.
January 1788: Tuareg rule on Timbuktu.
January 1819: Shaykhu Ahmadu establishes the Masina state (or Sise State), in Mali.
January 1819: Seku Amadu's forces decisively defeated the Bambara, taking Djenné and much of the territory around Mopti and annexing them to the Massina Empire.
January 1849: The Toucouleur Empire was established in 1848.
March 1861: The end of the Baman Empire came at the hands of El Hadj Umar Tall, a Toucouleur conqueror who swept across West Africa from Dinguiraye. Umar Tall's mujahideen readily defeated the Bambara, seizing Ségou itself on March 10, 1861, and declaring an end to the Bamana Empire (which effectively became part of the Toucouleur Empire).
