Establishment


  • January 1741: In 1740, migrants from the Lunda Kingdom, led by Chief Kazembe, settled in the Lake Moero and Lwapula Valley region. This territory later became part of the Kingdom of Kazembe.

  • January 1857: The Yeke Kingdom was founded by chief Msidi (also spelled M'Siri, Mziri, Msiri) who had immigrated from Unyamwezi (central Tanzania).

  • Disestablishment


  • January 1900: After King Msiri's death the Kingdom of Kazembe was divided in 1894 between Britain - the eastern shores of the Luapula and Lake Mweru became part of North-Eastern Rhodesia, administered by the British South Africa Company (BSAC) - and King Leopold II of Belgium's misnamed Congo Free State (CFS) but the real control was achieved only in 1899.
