The Mossi Kingdoms, sometimes referred to as the Mossi Empire, were a number of different powerful kingdoms in modern-day Burkina Faso which dominated the region of the upper Volta river for hundreds of years.

January 1205: Nugu, a Gurma state, is founded.
January 1251: The Kingdom of was one of the oldest and most organised traditional kingdoms in Ghana founded by the Dagomba people (Dagbamba) in the 11th century.
January 1498: When Askia Mohammad I became the leader of the Songhai Empire with the desire to spread Islam, he waged a holy war against the Mossi kingdoms in 1497.
March 1591: With the conquest of the Songhai by the Moroccans of the Saadi dynasty in 1591, the Mossi states reestablished their independence.

January 1701: The Kingdom of Gourma was founded by Diaba Lompo with the capital at Pama. Later, in the 18th century, Yendabri moved Gulmu's capital to Fada N'Gourma.
January 1701: Around 1700, the capital of the empire was moved from Surame to Birnin Kebbi by King Tomo. At the same time, the empire experienced its greatest expansion and heyday. It stretched more than 500 km from Ader in the north to Borgu in the south.
January 1751: Djermakoy Aboubacar, a member of the Taguru clan, established the Dosso state in 1750 in the Dallol Bosso valley. The territory remained a small collection of villages until the 1820s when it began to expand under his leadership.
January 1751: Nikki, the second-largest kingdom in Borgu, was founded.

January 1857: From 1857 the Kingdom of Dosso was independent from the Sokoto Caliphate.
January 1891: The central part of actual niger was conquered by the French in 1890.
February 1895: Local Gurma ruler accept French protection.
Disestablishment
January 1897: In 1896, the French took over the Mossi Kingdom and created the French Upper Volta which largely used the Mossi administrative structure for many decades in governing the colony.
