Was a kingdom centered in modern-day Laos. It was one of the largest kingdoms in Southeast Asia.

Establishment


  • January 1354: It was in the fourteenth century that Prince Fa Ngum, a native of Xieng Dong-Xieng Thong, undertook to unify Laos. Driven out at a very young age by his father, educated by the Khmers in Angkor, he returned as a conqueror to his hometown, having annexed two other provinces in the process, constituting for the first time in the history of the region a united Laotian territory.

    1. Vietnamese-Laotian War (1479-80)


    Was a military conflict precipitated by the invasion of the Lao kingdom of Lan Xang by the Vietnamese Đại Việt Empire.

  • January 1480: The Vietnamese sacked Lan Xang’s capital, Xieng Dong Xieng Thong (Luang Prabang).
  • February 1480: The Vietnamese army leaves ieng Dong Xieng Thong (Luang Prabang).

  • January 1566: Lan Xang Kingdom conquered by Kingdom of Toungoo.

  • January 1598: In 1597, the Lan Xang Kingdom faced fragmentation as various vassals broke away from the central authority. This led to the territory ultimately being absorbed into the Kingdom of Lan Xang. King Nokeo Koumane was the ruler of Lan Xang at that time, trying to maintain control over the disintegrating kingdom.
