Civil war broke out among the sons of Sultan Bayezid I upon his death in 1403.
April 1404: Isa was the son of Bayezid I, who ruled the Ottoman Empire until his defeat by Timur in 1402. Süleyman was Bayezid's son and successor. After Isa's death, Süleyman invaded Anatolia and captured Bursa in March 1404, solidifying his control over the territory.
January 1412: In 1411 Süleimain's army defected to Mûsa at Edirne and Suleyman was executed on the orders of Mûsa. Mûsa was now the ruler of the Ottoman dominions in Thrace.
July 1413: The armies of the rival Ottoman brothers met on the plain of Chamurli. Mûsa's Ottomans fought well, but the battle was won by Muhammad and his allies. Mûsa fled, was later captured and strangled. With Mûsa dead, Muhammad was the sole surviving son of the late Sultan Bayezid I and became Sultan Muhammad I.
January 1413: In 1412 the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed I killed Hızır, the last Saruhan ruler, and absorbed the Beylik of the Sarukhanids into the Ottoman Empire as a province.
