Establishment


  • July 1876: Uprising of the conservatives opposed to the reforms of the liberal-radical president Aquileo Parra, beginning in Cauca and quickly followed by those of Antioquia and Tolima. Soon after, Santander, Cundinamarca and Boyacá were also affected.
  • July 1876: The war began when the Antioqueños and Tolimenses rebels attacked the troops in Tuluá.
  • July 1876: 300-400 conservatives advanced against Cartago.
  • July 1876: At the end of the july the whole of northern Cauca Province was in the hands of the insurgents.
  • September 1876: Trujillo defeated the conservative militias of the south of Cauca in the Tambo.
  • September 1876: General Delgado took Pereira.

    1. Colombian Civil War of 1876


    Was a civil war in the United States of Colombia caused by a revolt of the Conservatives against the reforms of the government.

  • January 1877: Government forces pursued the rebels to Cúcuta, occupying the city.
  • February 1878: Senator and General Felipe Farias revolted in San Juan de César.
  • April 1878: Trujillo launched an attack on conservative positions near the city, taking them and thus surrounding the place. The president of Antioquia, Silverio Arango, surrendered the following morning in a place called "San Antonio". The administration of the state remained in the hands of Trujillo who organized a provisional government that took office on April 10.
  • April 1878: Trujillo advanced with his troops into the interior of the state and occupied Rionegro.
  • April 1878: He was received with celebrations in Medellín.
  • April 1878: The last great battle of the Colombian Civil War was fought in the Cocuy between liberal forces led by General Rafael Reyes and conservative forces led by General Trujillo. The liberal forces emerged victorious, leading to the territory being annexed to the United States of Colombia in 1878.
