The Pandyas shifted their capital to Tenkasi and continued to rule a small area until the end of the 16th century. They were referred as Tenkasi Pandyas.
Establishment
January 1331: The Pandyas were a dynasty in South India, known for their rule in the region. In 1330, they shifted their capital to Tenkasi, where they continued to govern a small territory until the late 16th century. During this time, they were known as the Tenkasi Pandyas.

1. Events
January 1503: The Portuguese were the first Europeans to establish a trading center inĀ Tangasseri, Kollam inĀ 1502.
Disestablishment
January 1538: In 1537 CE, Vikrama Aditya Pandya the heriditary jati talaivan (caste leader) of the Paravar led a delegation to Goa and made a deal with the Portuguese and agreed to embrace christianity and open the doors of the pear fisheries in exchange for protection from the Muslim Marakayyar and Mappila traders. Accordingly, he was rechristened Joao de Cruz and 20,000 of his castemen embraced christianity and became subjects of the king of Portugal. The Portuguese state began to claim rights over the economic resources in the area.
