Smbat I "the Martyr" was a King who ruled over the Bagratid Kingdom of Armenia from 891 to 914. During his reign, Armenia faced several significant conflicts. One of the most important wars was the Byzantine-Arab War, which lasted from 892 to 904. This conflict saw the Bagratid Kingdom caught between the Byzantine Empire and the Abbasid Caliphate, resulting in territorial disputes and power struggles. Additionally, Smbat I had to contend with internal revolts, such as the rebellion led by David I Anhoghin in 899.
