Xuanzong was the seventh emperor of the Tang Dynasty, ruling from 712 to 756. During his reign, he oversaw the expansion and prosperity of the empire, known as the "Great Kaiyuan" era. However, his later years were marred by the devastating An Lushan Rebellion, which lasted from 755 to 763. This rebellion, led by the general An Lushan, posed a significant threat to the Tang Dynasty and resulted in widespread destruction and loss of life. Despite the rebellion's eventual suppression, it weakened the empire and marked the beginning of its decline.
