Yaropolk I was a Prince who ruled over Kievan Rus' from 972 to 980. During his reign, he faced several significant conflicts, including the war against his brother, Oleg of Novgorod, in 977. This war lasted for three years and resulted in Yaropolk's victory, solidifying his control over the region. However, his rule was cut short when he was assassinated in 980 by a member of the Drevlians, a neighboring tribe. While Yaropolk's reign was relatively short, his military successes and untimely demise left a lasting impact on the political landscape of Kievan Rus'.
