Mohammed Omar, Supreme Leader (Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan) : All Data
Mohammed Omar was the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. During his tenure, Afghanistan witnessed significant conflicts, including the Afghan Civil War (1996-2001) and the subsequent Taliban insurgency. The ruler's strict interpretation of Islamic law led to the implementation of oppressive policies, particularly towards women, and the destruction of cultural heritage, such as the Buddhas of Bamiyan in 2001. Despite international condemnation, Omar maintained control over most of Afghanistan until the US-led invasion in 2001, which marked the beginning of the War in Afghanistan (2001-present).
