Meishō, Emperor (Japanese Empire) : All Data
Meishō was the Empress of the Japanese Empire, reigning from 1629 to 1643. During her rule, the most significant war was the Shimabara Rebellion, which occurred from 1637 to 1638. This revolt was led by Christian peasants and rōnin against the oppressive policies of the ruling samurai class. The rebellion was brutally suppressed by the shogunate forces, resulting in the deaths of thousands and the end of Christianity's influence in Japan. Despite the turmoil, Meishō's reign also saw advancements in arts and culture, with the flourishing of the Edo period's ukiyo-e woodblock prints and kabuki theater.
