Nicomedes IV Philopator was the king of the Kingdom of Bithynia from -90 to -74. During his reign, he faced significant military challenges, including the First Mithridatic War (89-85) and the Second Mithridatic War (83-81). In the First Mithridatic War, Nicomedes IV allied with the Roman Republic against Mithridates VI of Pontus, but the conflict ended inconclusively. In the Second Mithridatic War, Nicomedes IV again sided with Rome, but this time the Roman general Lucius Licinius Murena's unauthorized actions led to a peace treaty between Rome and Mithridates VI.
