Joan I, Queen of the Kingdom of Navarre, ruled from 1274 to 1305. During her reign, she faced several significant conflicts, including the War of the Navarrese Succession (1276-1277) and the War of the Breton Succession (1294-1297). The former war erupted when Joan's father, King Henry I, died without a male heir, leading to a power struggle for the Navarrese throne. The latter conflict arose from the disputed succession to the Duchy of Brittany, where Joan's husband, Philip IV of France, supported his niece's claim against other contenders. Despite these challenges, Joan I managed to maintain her rule and consolidate Navarre's position as an independent kingdom.
