Charles Albert was the King of the Kingdom of Sardinia from 1831 to 1849. During his reign, he faced significant challenges, including the First War of Italian Independence (1848-1849). This conflict, also known as the First Italian War of Independence, was fought between the Kingdom of Sardinia, led by Charles Albert, and the Austrian Empire. Despite initial successes, the war ended in defeat for Sardinia, with Charles Albert abdicating the throne in favor of his son, Victor Emmanuel II, in 1849.
