Philipp von Heinsberg was the Archbishop of Cologne from 1181 to 1191. During his tenure, he faced several significant conflicts, including the War of the Limburg Succession (1183-1184) and the Revolt of the Citizens of Cologne (1189-1191). The War of the Limburg Succession erupted in 1183, when Philipp supported Count Lothar of Hochstaden against Count Henry of Limburg, resulting in a violent struggle for control over the territories. The Revolt of the Citizens of Cologne occurred towards the end of his rule, from 1189 to 1191, as the citizens rebelled against the archbishop's authority, leading to a prolonged conflict within the city. Despite these challenges, Philipp von Heinsberg managed to maintain his position as the ruler of the Archbishopric of Cologne for a decade.
