Francis II was the last King of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, reigning from 1859 to 1861. During his rule, he faced significant challenges, including the Expedition of the Thousand led by Giuseppe Garibaldi in 1860, which aimed to unify Italy. This resulted in the outbreak of the Second Italian War of Independence, also known as the Expedition of the Thousand, in 1860. The war ultimately led to the fall of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and the establishment of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861.
