Edward the Elder was the King of Wessex from 899 to 924. During his reign, he successfully expanded his kingdom's territory and influence. One of the most important wars that occurred during his tenure was the Battle of Tettenhall in 910, where Edward and his sister Æthelflæd, Lady of the Mercians, defeated the combined forces of the Vikings and the Welsh. Another significant conflict was the reconquest of the Danelaw, which took place between 917 and 918. Edward's military campaigns and strategic alliances played a crucial role in consolidating Wessex's power and laying the foundation for the eventual unification of England under his son, Æthelstan.
