Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu was the King of KwaZulu from 1977 until his passing in March 2021. During his reign, he witnessed significant political changes in South Africa, particularly the apartheid era and the subsequent transition to democracy. While no major wars occurred during his tenure, there were notable conflicts and uprisings. The most significant was the Soweto Uprising in 1976, which took place before his reign but had a lasting impact on the country. Another significant event was the Boipatong massacre in 1992, where 45 people were killed during political violence in the lead-up to the first democratic elections in 1994.
