Izz ad-Din Aybak was the first Sultan of the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt, reigning from 1250 to 1257. During his rule, he faced several significant conflicts, including the Seventh Crusade led by Louis IX of France, which took place from 1248 to 1254. Aybak also had to deal with internal revolts, such as the rebellion of the Bahri Mamluks in 1250. Despite these challenges, Aybak managed to consolidate his power and establish a strong foundation for the Mamluk Sultanate, which would go on to become a dominant force in the region for centuries to come.
