Astyages was the ruler of the Median Empire from approximately -585 to -549. During his reign, he faced significant military conflicts, including the war with the Lydian Kingdom. This war, known as the Battle of Halys, took place around -585 and resulted in a stalemate between the two powers. Another important conflict was the war with the Persian Empire, led by Cyrus the Great. This war, known as the Median-Persian War, occurred around -550 and marked the end of Astyages' rule, as he was defeated by Cyrus and the Median Empire was absorbed into the Persian Empire.
