Selim III was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1789 to 1807. During his reign, he faced significant challenges, including the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars. In 1798, the Ottoman Empire became involved in the French Revolutionary Wars when Selim III declared war on France. This conflict lasted until 1802. Additionally, the Napoleonic Wars, which began in 1803, also impacted Selim III's rule. These wars involved various European powers and lasted until 1815. Despite his efforts to modernize the empire, Selim III faced opposition from conservative factions within the empire, leading to his eventual deposition in 1807.
