Clement V was the Pope who reigned over the Papal States from 1305 to 1314. During his tenure, he faced significant challenges, including the ongoing conflict between the French monarchy and the Knights Templar. In 1307, Clement V reluctantly acquiesced to the demands of King Philip IV of France and ordered the arrest and suppression of the Templars, leading to their dissolution. Another major conflict during his reign was the War of Saint-Sardos, which took place from 1303 to 1305. This war was a territorial dispute between the Papal States and the Kingdom of France, ultimately resulting in a victory for the French.
