Nikola I was the Prince (1860-1910) and later the King (1910-1921) of the Kingdom of Montenegro. He ruled from 1860 until his death in 1921, with a brief interruption during the Balkan Wars. During his reign, Nikola I faced significant challenges, including the First Balkan War (1912-1913) and the First World War (1914-1918). Despite the turmoil, Nikola I managed to maintain Montenegro's independence and played a crucial role in the formation of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia) in 1918.
