Sviatoslav III was a prince who ruled over the Principality of Smolensk from 1236 to 1240. During his tenure, he faced significant challenges, including the Mongol invasion of Rus. In 1237, the Mongols launched a devastating campaign known as the Mongol Invasion of Rus, which lasted until 1240. This war resulted in the fall of numerous Russian principalities, including Smolensk, to the Mongol Empire.
