James of Sarawak, also known as Rajah James, was the ruler of Sarawak from 1841 to 1868. During his reign, Sarawak witnessed significant conflicts, including the Brunei Civil War (1846-1847) and the Chinese Rebellion (1857-1863). The Brunei Civil War, which occurred within the calculated timespan of his rule, saw James supporting the victorious Sultan Hashim Jalilul Alam Aqamaddin against his rival, Pengiran Muda Hashim. The Chinese Rebellion, also known as the Sarawak Chinese Insurrection, took place from 1857 to 1863 and posed a major challenge to James' rule. Despite these conflicts, James of Sarawak managed to maintain his position as the Rajah and played a crucial role in shaping the history of Sarawak.
