Francisco Solano López was the President of the Republic of Paraguay from 1862 until his death in 1870. During his tenure, Paraguay was involved in the devastating Paraguayan War (1864-1870), also known as the War of the Triple Alliance. This war was fought between Paraguay and the Triple Alliance of Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay, resulting in the loss of a significant portion of Paraguay's population and territory. López's leadership during this conflict was marked by his determination to defend Paraguay's sovereignty, but ultimately led to the country's devastation and his own demise.
