Manuel de la Peña y Peña was the President of the Second Federal Republic of Mexico from 1847 to 1848. During his tenure, Mexico faced significant challenges, including the Mexican-American War (1846-1848) and the Mexican Caste War (1847-1901). The Mexican-American War, which began before Peña y Peña assumed office, resulted in the loss of significant territory to the United States. The Mexican Caste War, a rebellion in the Yucatan Peninsula, started in 1847 and continued long after Peña y Peña's presidency. Despite these tumultuous times, Peña y Peña worked to stabilize the country and navigate through these conflicts.
