Ashot III "the Merciful" was the King of the Bagratid Kingdom of Armenia from 965 to 977. During his reign, he faced several significant conflicts, including the Byzantine-Arab Wars. One of the most important wars that occurred during his tenure was the Battle of Andrassos in 965, where the Byzantine forces, led by Emperor Nikephoros II Phokas, defeated the Arab armies. Another notable conflict was the Battle of Raban in 968, where Ashot III successfully defended his kingdom against the invading Byzantine forces. Despite the challenges, Ashot III was known for his mercy and compassion, earning him the epithet "the Merciful."
