Alexios III was the Emperor of the Byzantine Empire from 1195 to 1203. During his reign, the empire faced significant challenges, including the Fourth Crusade and the revolt of the Bulgarians. In 1202, the Fourth Crusade, led by the Latin Empire, besieged and captured Constantinople, resulting in the establishment of the Latin Empire in 1204. Additionally, in 1203, the Bulgarians, under the leadership of Tsar Kaloyan, revolted against Byzantine rule, further weakening the empire.
