Romanos II was the Emperor of the Byzantine Empire from 959 to 963. During his reign, he faced several significant conflicts, including the ongoing Byzantine-Bulgarian Wars. In 961, Romanos II led a successful campaign against the Bulgarian Empire, capturing their capital Preslav and forcing the Bulgarian Tsar Boris II to become a vassal of the Byzantine Empire. However, in 963, a revolt broke out in the Byzantine army led by the general Nikephoros Phokas, which ultimately resulted in Romanos II's death and the ascension of Nikephoros Phokas to the throne.
