Amadeus VIII, also known as Amadeus the Peaceful, was the Count (1391-1416) and Duke (1416-1440) of the Duchy of Savoy. He ruled from 1417 to 1440, a period marked by significant conflicts. During his tenure, he faced the Hussite Wars (1419-1434), a series of religious uprisings in Bohemia, and the Burgundian Wars (1438-1440), which involved clashes between the Duchy of Savoy and the powerful House of Burgundy. Despite these challenges, Amadeus VIII was known for his diplomatic skills and efforts to maintain peace, earning him the epithet "the Peaceful."
