Rama I, also known as Phra Phutthayotfa Chulalok, was the first monarch of the Kingdom of Thonburi. He ruled from 1782 until his death in 1809. During his reign, Rama I successfully defended his kingdom against the Burmese invasion in the Burmese-Siamese War of 1785-1786. He also led his forces in the Siamese-Lao War of 1790-1791, which resulted in the annexation of the Lao states of Vientiane and Luang Prabang. Rama I's military victories and administrative reforms laid the foundation for the modernization and stability of the Kingdom of Thailand.
