Alfred the Great was the King of the Kingdom of Wessex from 872 to 899. During his reign, he faced several significant wars, including the Viking invasions. One of the most notable conflicts was the Battle of Edington in 878, where Alfred successfully defeated the Viking army led by Guthrum, securing a peace treaty and establishing the Danelaw. Another important war occurred in 892-896, known as the Great Heathen Army's invasion, where Alfred's forces defended Wessex against a large Viking force.
