Xerxes I, also known as Xerxes the Great, was the King of Kings of the Achaemenid Empire from -486 to -465. He ruled over a vast empire that stretched from Egypt to India. During his reign, Xerxes faced several significant wars, including the Second Persian invasion of Greece from -480 to -479, where he led a massive army against the Greek city-states. This war resulted in the famous battles of Thermopylae, Salamis, and Plataea. Xerxes also faced revolts in Egypt and Babylon during his rule, which were suppressed by his forces. Despite his military campaigns, Xerxes is also known for his architectural projects, including the construction of the Gate of All Nations at Persepolis.
