Cædwalla was a King who ruled over the Kingdom of Wessex from 685 to 688. During his reign, he led several significant military campaigns. In 686, Cædwalla launched a successful invasion of Sussex, defeating the South Saxons and incorporating their territory into his kingdom. The following year, in 687, he led an expedition against the Isle of Wight, resulting in its conquest and subsequent incorporation into Wessex. These military victories expanded the influence and power of the Kingdom of Wessex under Cædwalla's rule.
