Romoald I was a Duke who ruled over the Duchy of Benevento from 663 to 672. During his tenure, the most significant war was the Lombard-Byzantine War, which lasted from 663 to 668. This conflict saw Romoald I leading his forces against the Byzantine Empire in an attempt to expand his territory and assert his independence. Additionally, in 669, the Duchy of Benevento faced a revolt led by the Lombard noble Grimoald IV, which Romoald I successfully suppressed. Despite the challenges, Romoald I's rule was marked by his military prowess and determination to defend and expand his duchy's influence.
