Guglielmo Gonzaga was the Duke of Mantova from 1556 to 1587. During his reign, he faced several significant conflicts, including the War of Cyprus (1570-1573) and the Eighty Years' War (1568-1648). The War of Cyprus, which occurred from 1570 to 1573, was a conflict between the Ottoman Empire and the Holy League, in which Guglielmo supported the Holy League's efforts to defend Cyprus against the Ottomans. The Eighty Years' War, which began in 1568 and lasted until 1648, was a Dutch revolt against Spanish rule, and although Mantova was not directly involved, Guglielmo maintained diplomatic relations with both sides during this prolonged conflict.
