Jimmy Carter, President (Panama Canal Zone) : All Data
Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States, serving from 1977 to 1981. During his tenure, the most significant war was the Iran hostage crisis, which began in 1979 and ended in 1981. This crisis strained relations between the United States and Iran, as 52 American diplomats and citizens were held hostage for 444 days. Although Carter attempted negotiations and a rescue mission, the hostages were not released until after his presidency. Another notable conflict during his presidency was the Soviet-Afghan War, which started in 1979 and continued beyond his term. Carter responded by imposing an embargo on the Soviet Union and supporting Afghan resistance fighters.
