William V was the last Stadtholder of the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands, reigning from 1751 until 1795. During his rule, he faced significant challenges, including the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War (1780-1784) and the French Revolutionary Wars (1792-1795). The Fourth Anglo-Dutch War saw the Netherlands lose many of its colonies to the British, while the French Revolutionary Wars brought about the French occupation of the Netherlands and the eventual downfall of the Dutch Republic. Despite these tumultuous times, William V's reign marked the end of an era for the Dutch Republic and the beginning of a new chapter in Dutch history.
