Isma'il Pasha, also known as Khedive Isma'il, was the ruler of Egypt's Khedivate from 1863 to 1879. During his tenure, he implemented modernization reforms and embarked on ambitious infrastructure projects, such as the construction of the Suez Canal. However, his extravagant spending led to financial difficulties, resulting in the country's bankruptcy in 1876. The most significant war that occurred during Isma'il Pasha's rule was the Egyptian-Ethiopian War, which took place from 1875 to 1876. This conflict arose from Isma'il's attempts to expand Egypt's influence into Sudan and Ethiopia, ultimately resulting in a costly defeat for the Egyptian forces.
