Ferdinand II of Aragon, also known as Ferdinand the Catholic, was the de facto King of Aragon and Castile from 1479 to 1516. He ruled alongside his wife, Isabella I of Castile, in a personal union. During his reign, Ferdinand played a crucial role in the completion of the Reconquista, the reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula from the Moors. The most important wars that occurred during his tenure were the Granada War (1482-1492), which resulted in the fall of the Emirate of Granada, and the Italian Wars (1494-1559), a series of conflicts over control of the Italian states.
