Frederick William, also known as the Great Elector, was the ruler of Brandenburg-Prussia from 1640 to 1688. During his reign, he successfully expanded his territories and consolidated his power. The most significant wars that occurred during his tenure were the Second Northern War (1655-1660) and the Franco-Dutch War (1672-1678). In the Second Northern War, Frederick William fought against Sweden and emerged victorious, gaining control over Swedish territories in Pomerania.
