Al-Mutawakkil was the Abbasid Caliph who ruled from 847 to 861 in the Abbasid Caliphate. During his reign, he faced several significant wars and revolts. One of the most notable conflicts was the Zanj Rebellion, which occurred from 869 to 883, after Al-Mutawakkil's reign. Another important war was the Saffarid invasion of Iraq, led by Ya'qub ibn al-Layth, which took place from 861 to 879, overlapping with Al-Mutawakkil's rule. These wars and revolts posed significant challenges to the stability and authority of the Abbasid Caliphate during Al-Mutawakkil's tenure.
