John IV Laskaris was the Emperor of the Empire of Nicaea from 1258 to 1261. During his reign, he faced significant military challenges, including the Byzantine civil war known as the War of the Epirus Succession (1258-1259) and the Latin Empire's invasion of Nicaea (1261). The War of the Epirus Succession, which occurred from 1258 to 1259, was a conflict between the Empire of Nicaea and the Despotate of Epirus over control of Thessaly. The invasion of Nicaea by the Latin Empire in 1261 marked the end of John IV Laskaris' reign, as the Latin forces captured Constantinople and restored the Byzantine Empire under their rule.
