Henry III the Great was the King of Navarre from 1572 to 1610. He ruled during a tumultuous period marked by religious conflicts, including the French Wars of Religion (1562-1598) and the Eighty Years' War (1568-1648). As a Protestant ruler in a predominantly Catholic country, Henry faced numerous challenges to his authority, but he successfully navigated these conflicts and eventually converted to Catholicism to secure his position as King of France. Despite the ongoing wars, Henry III the Great implemented important reforms, such as the Edict of Nantes in 1598, which granted religious freedom to Protestants and brought a measure of peace to the kingdom.
