Yohannes IV was the Emperor of the Ethiopian Empire from 1872 to 1889. During his reign, he faced several significant conflicts, including the Mahdist War (1881-1885) and the First Italo-Ethiopian War (1887-1889). The Mahdist War, which took place in Sudan, saw Yohannes IV leading Ethiopian forces in support of the Egyptian government against the Mahdist movement. In the First Italo-Ethiopian War, Yohannes IV fought against Italian colonial forces, ultimately losing his life in the Battle of Metemma in 1889. Despite his untimely death, Yohannes IV is remembered as a strong and influential ruler who defended Ethiopian sovereignty against external threats.
