1383-1385 Portuguese interregnum, period (portugal) : All Data
During the Portuguese interregnum from 1383 to 1385, the ruler of the Kingdom of Portugal was John I, also known as John of Aviz. He ruled from 1385 to 1433. The most significant war that occurred during his tenure was the Crisis of 1383-1385, also known as the Portuguese Succession Crisis. This conflict arose after the death of King Ferdinand I, and John I led a successful revolt against the Castilian claimant to the throne, resulting in the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385. This decisive victory secured John I's position as the ruler of Portugal and marked the end of the interregnum period.
