Afonso I, also known as Afonso Henriques, was the first King of Portugal, reigning from 1139 to 1185. He established the Kingdom of Portugal after defeating his mother, Countess Teresa, in the Battle of São Mamede in 1128. During his rule, Afonso I faced several significant conflicts, including the War of the Three Kingdoms (1140-1143), where he fought against the combined forces of León, Castile, and his mother's supporters, securing Portugal's independence. Another notable conflict was the Siege of Lisbon (1147), where Afonso I, alongside a Crusader fleet, successfully captured the city from the Moors, expanding his kingdom's territory.
